Beat the Heat
Pennsylvania saw a sharp rise in heat-related ER visits last summer. Heat stress can lead to heat exhaustion or life-threatening heat stroke if untreated. Key tips from the CDC: drink water every 15–20 minutes, rest in the shade, and watch for cramps or confusion.
When to come in: If someone is experiencing dizziness, nausea, stops sweating, or their temperature rises above 103 °F, head to our clinic or call 911.
Tick & Lyme Awareness:
Nymphal deer ticks are most active during June and July, which is when the majority of new Lyme disease cases occur in Pennsylvania (Source).
To protect yourself:
Apply an EPA-registered repellent with at least 20% DEET
After hiking or working in the yard, conduct full-body checks for ticks
If you find one, remove it promptly with tweezers, making sure to note the date of the removal
Be vigilant for any rash or flu-like symptoms that may develop.
If necessary, visit us for a same-day evaluation, and if appropriate, we can provide preventive antibiotics.
Sun-Smart Skin
UV rays are strongest between 10 AM and 4 PM. Use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ and reapply every two hours—or sooner after swimming or sweating. We treat sunburns, but prevention is painless!
Weekend Warriors & Young Athletes
Pick-up basketball, bike trails on the Schuylkill River, and soccer tournaments ramp up during the summer months. We can splint sprains, suture cuts, or take an X-ray in one visit, then send digital images to your orthopedist if needed.
